This sign will be familiar to anyone living in Maynard, Stow, Sudbury, or Hudson. But unless you've joined FOCUS on one of our annual "Take a Walk for Wildlife" days, you're likely less familiar with what's behind that rather dismal piece of lumber. One purpose of these Web pages is to show you what's behind that sign through photos of the interior of the Annex, and what's being done to turn this former Superfund site into a wildlife refuge.
FOCUS has been the primary "watchdog" for the clean up and re-use of the 2,500 acres of Annex land in the four towns. As a result, we have a library of Annex-related documents from the 1940s through today.
The question of whether the Annex is clean has been discussed for approximately 15 years. FOCUS urges residents in all four communities to carefully evaluate the proposals circulating for Annex reuse and recommends public consideration of any reuse proposals for a Superfund site. The history of the Annex demonstrates that "clean" may not really be "clean enough".
