Walk is Successful!
Although the day started out wet and gloomy, by 9:30 am, the sun was out and the temperature was in the 60s. A terrific beginning! Typically, we hold our walks in the spring, and this was our first fall walk. It was spectacular! The colors were great and the insect population was absent. You can view a photo journey of the walk.
Walkers Petition Secretary Babbit
To emphasize our determination to have the Annex designated a National Wildlife Refuge, FOCUS provided walkers with a petition to be signed at the Walk for Secretary of Interior Bruce Babbit. We have provided more information about sending your own letters and email at our site.
Great Meadow Supports Walk
The US Fish and Wildlife Service's Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge of Sudbury and Concord Massachusetts is likely the future caretaker of the Annex. As a part of their annual celebration of national wildlife refuges, Great Meadows sent Assitant Refuge Manager David Frisque to our walk to help answer questions about the national wildlife refuge program. We were quite impressed with David's knowledge of local biota and the refuge programs.
Thanks to Army, Great Meadows, and FOCUS Volunteers
The Walk, while seemingly a simple event, requires much planning and effort on many people's parts. FOCUS is very grateful for the support of the many people who helped make this Walk a success. (Once our photos are ready, we will provide links to photos of the various people mentioned.)
