Take A Walk for Wildlife!
On October 8, 1995 FOCUS will hold the fourth annual "Take a Walk for Wildlife" walk in the Annex. By popular demand and through fortuitous circumstances, we are able to hold the walk in the fall this year - don't miss it!
As in past years, we hope to "step off" at 10 am, so we encourage everyone to be at the Annex South Gate on Hudson Road in Sudbury by 9:45 at the very latest so we can get everyone registered in advance. You can speed the registration process by submitting your information online through our walkform. If you do this, we will have a pre-printed registration form waiting for your signature at the Annex.
As a part of the US Fish and Wildlife Services week long celebration: National Wildlife Refuge Week,
Great Meadows has graciously agreed to provide us with a staff member to tell walkers more about the national wildlife refuge program on the morning of the walk. Also important to note is that Fort Devens Deputy Commander Carter Hunt and the local fire chiefs have been most supportive in providing the necessary resources to hold our walk.
Specifics
A walking map will provided here shortly. The walk is about 3.5 miles long and takes about 2 hours to complete.
Walk Rules
- Minors
- No one under 18 may attend the walk without a parent or guardian or the express approval of FOCUS. Sorry to enforce this, we love kids, but liability issues require this. If anyone has a problem with this, please drop us a note and we will see if we can accomodate you.
- Stay with the group.
- The Annex is still a Superfund site - you must stay with the group on the specified path.
- You may not collect anything or leave anything.
- The basic rules of "Take nothing and leave only footprints" applies on the walk. FOCUS provides trash receptacles at the two water stations in case you have anything you must toss. It is illegal to collect plants or any other materials in the Annex. If you find something unsual, please notify a FOCUS member. (We'll be wearing tags.)
- Be sure to sign in and out.
- The Army is being very accomodating to allow us to do a walk on the Annex, it is really important to follow this rule. If someone neglects to sign out, we must organize a search for the person.
Additional Information
Additional information about the walk will be available in local papers and her at the web site. If necessary, you may call and leave a message at 508.461.0641. Someone will get back to you as quickly as possible.
We hope to see you at the walk!
